30p-per-day mobile internet tariff from Virgin

Virgin Mobile is looking to show up its rivals by launching a 30p-per-day internet access tariff, which, according to the company, is up to three times cheaper than its rivals. 

The new rates kick in on the 8th for both contract and pay-as-you-go
customers. However, while the rate is billed as all-access, a daily
fair use policy of 25MB is in place, with £2 charged per megabyte
exceeded, as is the case with other network operators.

And at
the same time, Virgin Mobile will unveil an enhanced web portal, with
news, games, music, video and "entertainment content", whatever that
is. Sony Pictures, Disney, Universal, EMI, Warner Music Group, EA and a
bunch of others (over 150 in all) have partnered with Virgin to provide
the goodies.

"By providing unlimited access at a highly
competitive rate, we are giving all our customers the opportunity to
use the internet on their phone without having to worry about racking
up huge bills or working out complicated price structures," said Virgin
Mobile managing director Graeme Oxby. But it ain’t unlimited, is it,
Graeme? Tut. Regardless, it seems a pretty good deal to us…
