Research-in-Motion is gearing up to launch its latest handset into the UK with the arrival of its Curve 8900 on the O2 network.

The smartphone, codenamed "Javelin" is smaller than the Bold 9000, lighter with a 480 by 330 colour display.

The
phone comes with a 3.2-megapixel camera, a microsSD card slot for card
of up to 16GB (it has 256MB of internal memory as well). There is also
support for MicroUSB.

The quad-band phone also supports 802.11g
wireless and Bluetooth 2.0 but oddly not 3G so mobile internet may not
be a good idea with this phone.

Thankfully, the audio features are quite good and can support a number
of audio formats as well as iTunes syncronisation. Office
productivity-wise it can cope with Word, Excel and PowerPoint and PDF
documents. It also syncs with Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and
Novell Groupwise.

It has a claimed battery life of 15 days standby and 5.5 hours talktime.

The smartphone should retail for around £420 in the shops. or free on O2.
