bbc-itv-c4.jpgWhile plans by the UK’s major broadcasters to offer a unified internet
TV video-on-demand service have been dealt a body blow after the
Competition Commission told them to change them to make them more
competitive.

The commission said that the broadcasters – BBC, ITV and Channel 4 –
will have to sell their content to rival platforms if Project Kangaroo
gets off the ground.

The broadcasters meanwhile have come back with proposals that could
launch the project quickly meaning the each broadcaster maintains its
own seven day catch-up service while Kangaroo is limited to offering
archived content.

The project has rejected other proposals from the Competition
Commission and said the venture would be abandoned if they were imposed.
