If the rumours prove true we could soon be seeing a brand new iPhone hitting the shelves this year.
According to Apple fan site MacRumors, the latest iPhone 2.x Firmware has evidence of the next generation iPhone which has been designated "iPhone2,1".
It said that Apple uses these models numbers to distinguish between different
hardware models. The original iPhone carried the model number of
"iPhone 1.1" while the 3G iPhone is labelled "iPhone 1.2".
It said that the numbers represent functionally different devices and therefore meant a new phone was on the way.
A new iPhone could feature multi-core processors and faster graphics GPUs from Imagination Technologies.
June currently the hot favourite for a product launch.
