Google Mail Gmail logoGoogle’s Gmail service hit the skids today, as users in Europe and Asia had trouble accessing their accounts. Even your friendly neighbourhood gadget website was affected…

Yes, a problem with availability starting around 10.30AM GMT stopped Absolute Gadget reading its emails and meant we had to actually do some work.

However, Google was aware of the problem and issued a statement on the Gmail support website.

“We’re working hard to resolve this problem and will post updates as we have them. We apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused,” the company grovelled.

Thankfully, after working to restore the service we are now able to catch up on all those jokes, respond to that Nigerian guy who wants to send us money and order Viagra from false companies set up to steal our credit card details.

The outage follows similar instances in August 2008, which even affected Google’s Premier Gmail customers.
