AVG logoUsers of AVG’s free anti-virus software are being warned that they need to upgrade to the latest version before support for the older software is withdrawn. After 12 April AVG version 7.5 will be obsolete.

That means no new virus definitions to download, which means users’ computers will be at risk from the latest bits of malware on the internet.

Users logging into the software at startup are given the option to Install Later or Install Now.

"After April 12, AVG Free 7.5 will no longer be updated,” the warning states.

"Time is running out! To stay protected against new viruses and other web threats, you must download AVG 8.5."
