LG Cookie KP500 mobile phone handsetWe wanted to use the headline “That’s the way the Cookie crunches the credit” but frankly it was too long and too abstract. What we’re trying to say, in a nutshell is that LG had some cool touchscreen tech and it wanted everyone to be able to afford it – so it created the Cookie handset. Now two million punters worldwide have snapped one up…

“LG wanted to allow more people to benefit from the advanced touch technology that we have introduced in previous touchscreen handsets,” says Dr. Skott Ahn, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications.

“Because of our extensive background in touchscreen handsets, we are now able to bring this innovative technology to consumers at an affordable price without compromising on feature quality.”

Yep, as we said above the Cookie range (LG-KP500 and LG-KP501) has recorded over two million unit sales worldwide since its debut in October 2008.

That’s more than 1.2 million consumers in Europe and 600,000 in Asia and emerging markets, including Latin America.

But the company’s not stopping there.

Jeremy Newing, head of marketing at LG Mobile in the UK, said LG will now expand Cookie’s distribution to 60 countries from the 40 existing markets the phone is available in, in order to reach sales goals of 10 million worldwide.
