EA Sports Active logo“Move over Wii Fit – the all new EA Active Personal Trainer has arrived!” A bold statement there from EA Sports. Still, we applaud anything that gets people working out and fighting the flab.

EA Sports describes its EA Active Personal Trainer as “an innovative new customisable and personalised fitness product that will get you motivated to move in the comfort of your home”.

You won’t have to wait long to see if it’s any cop, as it launches worldwide on 22 May 2009, with a UK price of £44.99.

“Fast becoming known as the ‘Personal Trainer in a Box’, EA Active Personal Trainer is perfect for the whole family, seeking a simple, fun and cost-effective way to achieve a healthy lifestyle,” EA’s marketing bods reckon.

“EA Active Personal Trainer features a wide variety of interactive activities that target both the upper and lower body as well as cardio, and supports two players to allow family or friends to get fit together.”

It’s not the be all and end all, though, as the product will be the first in a new line of EA Sports fitness and sports performance products in development to improve the wellbeing of people of all ages.

Features include:
* On-screen, real-time feedback on your workout such as calories burned
* Ability to adjust intensity levels
* Use of a specially-designed leg strap to hold the Wii’s Nunchuk controller to track lower body movements
* A resistance band to support a number of upper body strength training exercises.
* A 30 Day Challenge, a fitness road map for players to reach their fitness goals with the guidance of a virtual trainer.
* Users can also create their own custom workouts that vary in activity, duration and intensity
* Additional functionality for many exercises by using the Wii Balance Board from Wii Fit.
