Virgin Media V+ boxThe BBC has joined forces with Virgin Media to provide high definition content from its iPlayer service on Virgin’s cable TV service. Customers will now be able to watch favourites such as Robin Hood, Friday Night With Jonathan Ross and Later… With Jools Holland, in HD and on demand.

Virgin Media had already made the standard definition content on the BBC iPlayer available to its TV customers, with demand for the service reaching over 100 million views since it launched on Virgin Media a year ago.

"As more households become HD Ready, we’re keen to ensure that Virgin Media customers benefit from the most advanced digital TV service possible,” said Katharine Burns Rivington, executive director of content acquisition at Virgin Media.

“BBC iPlayer has been a huge success on our TV platform and we’re thrilled to be expanding the service with HD content.”

Burns Rivington also confirmed that Virgin will be increasing its line-up of broadcast HD channels over the next few months.

To watch television in HD, Virgin Media customers need a HD V+ set-top box and an HD ready television.
