See, they do care. Bill’s boys are currently testing free anti-virus software for release. The software, named Morro, will be able to take on viruses, spyware, rootkits and Trojans.
However, it will not have parental locks and other such fancier utilities offered by commercial security sets like McAfee.
Morro is Microsoft’s second try at anti-virus software – the first, Live OneCare, debuted three years ago and didn’t make much of an impact.
Microsoft intends to take Live OneCare off the market once Morro launches.
Microsoft says that the number of people signing up for anti-virus subscriptions has been flat, and roughly half of users lack fully up-to-date software, hence the decision to follow the likes of AVG with free software.
Morro should be launched by the end of the year.
