currys_logo.jpgDominos Pizza ended its sponsorship deal with The Simpsons on Sky1 last year. And it seems only fitting that food-loving Homer Simpson gets a fast-food sounding company as a replacement – even if he is more likely to get an LCD TV than a jalfrezi at Currys.

The onscreen deal kicks off this Sunday and to celebrate anyone named Simpson can bag a 10 per cent discount off TVs this weekend (Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June).

Shoppers will be required to show a passport or other form of photographic ID to prove they share the same surname as the cartoon TV family.

Currys said its sponsorship of The Simpsons will take a humorous look at everyday problems associated with electricals.

The show’s idents will show scenarios of things not going as well as they are meant to, followed by Currys staff providing solutions.

“Washing machines being knocked off the top of cars, car boot windows being smashed as people try to close them on fridge freezers, dogs being used as dishwashers, it almost could be taken from an episode of The Simpsons,” a Currys spokeswoman said.

Katie Bickerstaffe, director of marketing, HR and property at Currys, said the sponsorship represents “the first part of a much bigger campaign, which we will be rolling out over the next few months.”
