Twitter-6Does anyone actually use Twitter just for its basic update-on-what-you’re-doing function any more? The latest experiment to hit the micro-blogging site has seen the Royal Opera House request users to write a libretto for them.

The task has been given to composer Helen Porter, who is collecting tweets on the ROH’s Twitter page with the aim of setting them to familiar tunes and new music. The finished piece will be performed at the ROH in Covent Garden as part of a special event next month.

So far the opera’s up to Act 2 Scene 2 and involves several birds, a ginger cat called William, a man called Gustav and an un-named female caught up in some sort of confusing love story. You can read the story thus far at the House’s blog.

If you want to contribute, get on Twitter and don’t forget the #youropera hashtag.
