As any self-respecting journalist (so no-one round here then) will tell you, there’s nothing quite like a nice voice recorder for making you feel like a dedicated, noble newshound from a 1960s movie.

But the canny folks over at Olympus know that chances are your pockets are already stuffed with gadgety stuff. So, they’ve made a nice new voice recorder that doubles as an MP3 player.

The WS-560M (catchy) has Windows Media Audio and stereo recording modes for capturing all of your informant’s shady revelations. And then the 4GB of memory means you can sing along to all your favourite Steps tracks when driving away from the abandoned warehouse where you met. (Just us?) Obviously, that hefty chunk of memory can be used for other files, like scans of the secret blueprints with hidden bunkers revealed. (We’re not letting go of this tortured metaphor.)

The device also has a retractable high-speed USB connector, which allows you to transfer data quickly and charges the battery at the same time.
