Killing time in the departure lounge in Nüerberg Airport is an eye-opener. One sight in particular begs the question: has someone come up with a modern portable VHS recorder?

How else can we explain this image from a newsagent in duty free?

Tucked away under the batteries and other recordable media are some VHS tapes!

We don’t deny that VHS is still in widespread use (when Woolworths closed down, selling off all those tapes temporarily boosted their sales back into the top spot).

But airport shops normally sell items you can’t live without during your journey. So who’s doing some old-school recording en route?

At €4.60 per tape – and with current hand luggage restrictions – we’re guessing not that many people…
