windows7_logoWell it seemed like a great idea at the time. Microsoft, in order to publicise its latest OS Windows 7, would sponsor an episode of wildly popular cartoon sitcom Family Guy.

But of course, somebody must have just stduied the ratings and demographic and not the actual content. Now someone has and decided it wasn’t a good idea after all and yanked the deal.

According to entertainment trade publication Variety, the deal is off following the “shocked” discovery by Microsoft executives that the episode contained “Family Guy-style jokes, including riffs on deaf people, the Holocaust, feminine hygiene and incest.”

This material was “a bit much for Microsoft”.

So while all the references to Window 7 will remain, there will not be the saturation advertising surrounding the programme.

Microsoft wheeled out a statement to tell the world that its idea maybe wasn’t so great after all.

“We initially chose to participate in the Seth and Alex variety show based on the audience composition and creative humor of ‘Family Guy,’ but after reviewing an early version of the variety show it became clear that the content was not a fit with the Windows brand… We continue to have a good partnership with Fox, Seth MacFarlane and Alex Borstein and are working with them in other areas. We continue to believe in the value of brand integrations and partnerships between brands, media companies and talent.”
