These aren’t actually quite officially the best-selling games in the world for last year – rather, they’re the best-selling games when the data from the three largest gaming markets (the U.S., Japan and the U.K.) is combined. The data was collected by each region’s market research companies (The NPD Group, Enterbrain and GfK Chart-Track respectively, if you’re interested).

Super-hyped Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the overall winner, with 11.86 million copies sold (8.82m in the U.S., 2.80m over here and 237,500 in Japan). Counting down, the second to fifth places go to Wii Sports Resort (7.57m overall), New Super Mario Bros. Wii (7.41m), Wii Fit Plus (5.80m) and lastly the original Wii Fit (5.44m).

Go over to MCV if you want to see exactly how each title breaks down for each country. Amusingly, the two Wii Fits both sold more than double in the U.S. than Blighty or Japan. We’re saying nothing…
