HTC is getting into its stride with two new Android-based phones launched at this year’s Mobile World Congress.

The Chinese phone company unveiled its new Legend and Desire phones, both of which sport the Google-developed mobile Os and HTC’s own Sense user interface to pretty things up a bit at the front.

The Legend boasts a smooth, continuous surface, machined from a single aluminum block into a seamless compact frame. It also includes a stunning 3.2-inch, AMOLED HVGA display. The trackball has also been replaced with an optical joystick, surrounded by a narrow button to “improve usability without interrupting its unique design.”

The Desire plays on its mobile internet strengths with one of the most advanced displays available on a phone today. It comes with a large 3.7-inch AMOLED WVGA display. It is powered by a one gigahertz Snapdragon processor and is Adobe Flash 10.1 ready. As with the HTC Legend, it also includes an optical joystick.

The company has also launched its new Windows-based HD Mini, a smaller version of the Windows-powered HD2. The company has made a lot of effort in taking the really bad UI of a Windows phone and sticking on HTC’s far superior Sense UI.

“The integration of HTC Sense and Windows Phone on HD mini and HD2 gives customers an additional choice for an advanced Windows Mobile phone that is sleek, well crafted and easy to use,” said Peter Chou, chief executive of HTC.

HTC HD mini includes capacitive touch for viewing, zooming and resizing websites, Office files, PDF documents and pictures with just a pinch of your fingers. It also offers personal Wi-Fi anywhere for your computer or other devices.

All three phones should be available in mid-April. Pictures on the next page….
