If you was looking forward to watching FlashForward on HD and getting the extra detail on CSI then you’ll be pleased to know that Five is launching its high definition channel on Sky later this year.
While the channel won’t be launching any time soon on Freeview HD (now that Ofcom has handed that space over to BBC for the foreseeable future) it will be available to the two million subscripters to SKy’s HD service.
The launch is expected to be in July and will be the 42nd channel in Sky HD’s line-up. It will make SKy the first platform to offer all the terrestrial channels in HD (kinda).
Sky is aiming to have 50 HD channels by the end of the year, so no doubt we’ll be hearing about more launches in the months to come.
Five’s director of strategy, Charles Constable, said that the move to Sky HD “an exciting opportunity”, and added that Five’s “programme schedule is more suited to HD than that any other major free-to-air commercial broadcaster given the wide range of high quality series it broadcasts, such as our top-rated line-up of US dramas.”
