Logitech_Harmony_300iTake four remotes to the sofa? We just watch and… (that’s the end of the analogy, we don’t “go” anywhere). All of which is our convoluted way of saying that Logitech is adding a new universal remote control to its Harmony range, the Harmony 300i.

According to Logitech, the 300i will replace up to four remotes and is expected to be in stores from April for the bargain-basement recommended price of £29.99.

The company says the remote is very easy to install, simply connecting to your computer and using a web-based system to input the devices you are using. The online device library includes the details of more than 225,000 devices from more than 5,000 brands.

“Whether you have an ageing VCR or a brand new Blu-ray player, you can be confident your Harmony remote will control the Infra Red devices you have,” Logitech said.

It also includes five buttons that can be programmed to your favourite TV channels so you can access them instantly.

Ashish Arora, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s digital home group, said there were “No more excuses — it’s time to get rid of the stack of remotes on your coffee table and simplify your home entertainment experience.”

“Most universal remotes have a bad reputation for being hard to program and, as a result, you still use more than one remote to control the devices you own,” Arora continued.

“With the Harmony 300i, we wanted to deliver the promise of one remote to control your entertainment system to everyone.”
