sky_logoWith the BBC iPlayer under its belt, set-top box manufacturer Humax has landed a deal to get Sky channels on its devices via the Sky Player.

A new firmware update to its HD-Fox T2 Freeview boxes will allow users to watch live programmes and sports from Sky via the internet. A new 500GB PVR, to launch later this year, will also come with Sky Player pre-installed.

Griff Parry, Sky’s director of On-Demand, said: “We know many Sky homes have Freeview in other rooms, and this provides a great way for them to enjoy Sky away from their Sky box. And for new customers, particularly those in Freeview homes, it provides an innovative new access point to Sky’s high-quality pay TV content.”

However, the content isn’t free and will require a subscription (unlike Freeview, which is subscription free). Sky subscribers can access channels that have in their core subscription and watching live channels requires a Sky Multiroom or Sky Broadband Unlimited subscription.

Non-Sky customers will need to sign up for a Sky Player TV Entertainment Pack (starting from £15 per month) and if you want to watch Sky Sports, ESPN and Sky Movie channels, you will need to add these to an Entertainment Pack for an additional cost.
