ebay_logoeBay is making some changes to the way UK sellers list their items on its auction website – and that affects the way some gadgets will be sold. From mid-September 2010, sellers listing in the MP3 Players and GPS Systems sub-categories must list using a matching product from the eBay catalogue.

Search results containing listings from these categories will then be grouped by product. Rather than individual listings, potential buyers will see the number of listings available and the range of prices being offered.

“Displaying search results grouped by product will help simplify the internet shopping experience,” an official eBay statement said.

“Buyers will be able to find products more quickly, including the best deals from sellers who provide excellent service. These changes are in line with other eCommerce platforms and consistent with the online expectations of buyers.”

eBay also said other changes will offer new and enhanced tools to help sellers improve the performance of their listings and save time.

These include:
* New Listing Analytics – Track listing performance and sell more. From October, the new eBay Listing Analytics application will be made available to help improve the performance of listings and maximise sales.
* New standardised delivery information helps reduce questions. Delivery services will be displayed using a standard e-commerce classification – Economy, Standard and Express. Also, a new postage rate table enables sellers to display the costs for posting to special domestic regions not covered by standard charges.
* Bulk edit more and save time. More functionality will be available to manage listings on-site. Sellers will then be able to edit listing descriptions and more in bulk.
* Reminder – Buyer Protection cases included in seller performance. From 20 October, eBay and PayPal buyer protection cases will be added as a new requirement to the seller performance standards.
