We knew it had to happen but not this early. Makers of fine music-playing devices Apple will stop its free case giveaway by the end of this month.
The Capricorn-based company announced that it will cease its free bumpers to disgruntled customer program after 30 September.
“We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought,” the Cupertino company said Friday on its website. “A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a bumper case for free.”
The makers of shiny good to appreciative media wannabees started the offer in July when it became apparent that there was some kind of problem with the phone dropping calls when held in a certain fashion.
After reports of a “death grip”. Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that there was a problem and announced that cases would be given away to solve the “problem”. Jobs told incredulous delegates to the conference that the problem was not just with the iPhone 4 but with all mobile phones.
“We’re not perfect,” Jobs said at the time.
Apple just recently rolled out iOS 4.1 which updates the feature set of iPhone 4 as well as solving some bugs within the phone’s firmware.
