These days if you are over five foot, then chances are that you have had your legs crushed up to your ribcage flying economy on some no-frills airline. Well it looks like things could get worse if this Italian invention sees the light of day.

Called the “Sky Rider”, these new “seats” designed by Aviointeriors, could be a way of cramming even more passengers onto a plane, if things weren’t bad enough already.

The seats resemble a horse’s saddle. Passengers sit at an angle with the weight taken by their legs.

The design means each seat takes up seven inches less legroom and could allow more seats on a plane.

The seats will be unveiled this week at the Aircraft Interiors Expo Americas conference in Long Beach, California.
