Oregan_Networks_Onyx_HD_Internet_Media_PlayerOregan Networks has announced a UK launch for its Onyx-branded HD internet media player. Oregan, which develops media browsing technologies for television, says the small form-factor, affordable set-top box offers “a simple way” for consumers to stream popular internet video services and music, as well as accessing photo sharing and social networking sites on their TVs.

Onyx STBs will be available online from October and in leading high street retailers in time for Christmas, priced below £90.

“To offer consumers the maximum freedom of choice, the media player allows access to multiple branded content outlets via a slick and animated user interface,” an official anouncement said.

“These include catch-up TV, leading movie rental services and user-generated content, such as YouTube, BBC iPlayer in HD and various video podcasts.”

Other widget-based apps that work with the set-top box will include Facebook, Twitter, Jamie Oliver’s Ministry of Food, BBC News and BBC Sports and Accedo FunSpot games.

A global content search can also be activated through “a single click of the remote” to allow context-sensitive searching of video on the internet, as well as on DLNA compliant home network devices.
