virgin_media_logoFollowing Virgin Media’s announcement about its new 100Mb servicea few weeks back, the company has announced that it has today gone live in a number of areas around the UK.  The first areas to be enabled for 100Mb are Heckmondwike, Farnborough, Colchester and Barry, South Wales.

Virgin Media said that more areas will be being added throughout 2011 and up to mid-2012, when roll-out will be complete.

“A typical family will be able to get the new ultrafast service for as little as £35 a month when bought with a phone line, or just £45 per month when bought as a sole product,” Virgin said.

As well as providing 100Mb download speeds, the service will also deliver 10Mb upload speeds, giving Virgin Media customers the ability to share content such as live high-definition video with ease.

The new 100Mb package also comes with a new custom built energy efficient combined modem and wireless ‘N’ router, with the potential to deliver speeds of up to 400Mb as new services roll-out in the future.
