xbox_kinectWe are all aware that the Xbox of old caused a fair few headaches for Microsoft with their red ring of death problems. But that was ancient history (well a few years ago!) But reports have surfaced that its latest accessory, the Kinect, has caused more consoles to develop the same fault.

According to BBC Radio 4’s consumer watchdog programme, You and Yours, a number of Xbox owners have witnessed the problem shortly after connecting the device.

One ten-year-old boy told the programme: “We plugged [Kinect] in the day we got it but only played it a few times before we got the red lights. The next day when we tried it again we still had the red rings of death and haven’t been able to use it since.”

Since then, more problems have surfaced with users on forums getting similar problems.

But Microsoft went into full denial mode and said that the problem had nothing to do with the Kinect.

“There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental,” a spokesperson told the BBC programme.

A majority of the problems seem to come from owners of older Xbox consoles that have been connected to the Kinect. And not the newer ones that have had hardware defects that plagues older consoles removed.
