The ZTE Light Tab has become the first tablet PC to feature Dolby Mobile technology, as Dolby continues to migrate its entertainment products on to new devices. Shown off at the 2011 GSMA Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this week, the ZTE Light Tab is one of a host of devices Dolby Laboratories will be demonstrating that it says “transform the mobile experience”.

Andreas Spechtler, regional vice president for EMEA at Dolby Laboratories said the range highlighted the extensive adoption of Dolby technologies.

“There are now over 80 handsets worldwide that use Dolby technologies to enhance the mobile entertainment experience and we are working with leading mobile device manufacturers including Acer, Fujitsu, HTC, Lenovo, LG, NEC Casio, Nokia, Pantech and ZTE,” Spechtler said

“We have made significant progress in helping manufacturers and operators change the way that people feel about their entertainment on the go, as they demand a rich, high-definition audio experience without compromise.”

Spechtler said that MWC 2011 will demonstrate how Dolby’s technologies can add a new dimension to the HD mobile entertainment experience.

For example, Dolby Digital Plus offers premium audio performance when listening over headphones and full 5.1-channel surround sound output when a mobile device is connected to a home theatre systems via HDMI. Meanwhile, Dolby Pulse “combines the efficiency of High-Efficiency Advanced Audio Coding (HE AAC) with Dolby’s proven quality and audio expertise” to ensure a rich stereo sound at bit rates of 48 kbps and lower – perfect for mobile data rates.

At the same event in Spain, Dolby will also show how the latest version of Dolby Media Generator helps companies to format and deliver high-quality music and video content for mobile and PC consumption.

The system is already used by a range of leading content services from companies such as Audiotube, PacketVideo, Deezer, Omnifone, Faith Wonderworks, and Rhapsody.

The company will also be highlighting Dolby Voice, which it says brings “clear, consistent voice communications” to the Bluetooth headset market.
