Razr is a brand that Motorola goes back to from time to time and why not? It’s always been successful for the company. Now it has brought out a new Android-based smartphone called the Razr HD.

It sports  a 4.7-inch 720p screen, Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The screen is vivid and the Kevlar back makes this feel quite sturdy. It’s also thicker than rivals so packs a bigger battery.

Where the phone falls down on is price. £400 sim-free will make a hole in your wallet and the phone, while good, is a mid-range phone. Its dual core processor is no match for the quad cores found in the Nexus 4 of Samsung Galaxy S3. It is was cheaper we would certainly recommend it.

Around the edge, the phone sports a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro-USB port and mini-HDMI port. There’s also a microSD card slot to expand the 16GB of internal storage.

The SD slot is hidden away with the micro-SIM card slot. Luckily it is accessible using the tool provided.

The interface looks pretty similar to other Android phone. It comes with two homescreens to add widgets to but you can add another five screens as well. Jumping to the left is a quick settings screen. This gives users instant access to important settings such as brightness, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

One feature we did like is the SmartActions tool. This allows you to set actions when certain triggers take place. You can arrive at your office and set the phone to mute and reply to all calls with a text message if you so wish.

The Razr HD is 4G enabled so it can take advantage of next gen services from EE right away and other mobile operators when they bring their networks online later in the year.

It’s available SIM-free from  Expansys for around £400, and free on monthly contracts from £26 per month on a two-year deal. If it was cheaper we would certainly recommend it for consideration.
