The Super-Fast Thermapen has become a favorite among restaurants, gourmet chefs, cooks and food quality managers worldwide. But is it any good in the home?

The foldaway probe and the simple pocket design replace the more costly and bulky handheld thermometers and probes while using the same professional thermocouple technology. This new generation Thermapen features a robust, splash-proof design with waterproof seals to protect the thermometer from wet hands and kitchen mishaps.

The SuperFast Thermapen incorporates a larger digital display with a precise read-out of temperature over the range of -49.9 to 299.9°C with a 0.1°C resolution and an accuracy of ±0.4°C over the range of -49.9 to 199.9°C

Both low battery (icon) and open circuit indication are also displayed, when applicable. Each Thermapen is powered by two lithium coin cell batteries and has a minimum life expectancy of 1,500 hours. The changeable battery is easily accessible when, and if, you need to change it, ensuring a very long life.

The probe on the Thermapen is very slender so the hole is significantly smaller than others we’ve used.

With other thermometers, you can wait a long time for a result, but this is significantly faster – about 3-4 seconds for a reading. The sensor in this probe is quite near the end so you don’t have to insert it very far to get a good reading.

This product is fast and very accurate and the digital display has large numbers, which are easy to read.

Overall, while the price is not cheap compared to others on the market, it has enough great features to merit careful consideration.

The Thermapen is available from Amazon for around £36. (Link)
