Many health technologies rely on the user wearing a watch-like device. Wello has turned that concept on its head but shifting the health monitor to the phone instead.

Available as a case for the iPhone, Wello uses embedded sensors in the case to measure f key vitals including blood pressure, electrocardiography (ECG), heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, lung functions and more, with a high level of accuracy.

Just by holding the phone, sensors take measurements and pass on gathered information to the Wello app via Bluetooth LE. Not only does it bring instantaneous results and data on your key vitals, over time it is possible to identify patterns that can help make more informed lifestyle choices.

It doesn’t leave wearables out of the picture completely. It can also connect with other health and fitness devices such as FitBit to help identify how different behaviours can affect bodily state.

It also provides safe and secure remote access – so it can be used to track the key vitals of family members too.

“Over the last two years, we have focused our efforts on coming up with a technologically advanced yet easy-to-use tool to help people monitor their health and facilitate better lifestyle choices,” said Hamish Patel, founder and CEO at Azoi.

“We are proud to introduce Wello – a not so small engineering feat in microelectronics, nanosensors, imaging, data analytics and design. By putting health monitoring technology into a highly convenient and accessible mobile phone case, we hope to be able to make a real difference.”

“We believe that through improved self-awareness of key vitals, technology could very easily reduce the incidence and impact of a wide range of illnesses and diseases. Not only could this help ensure healthier, happier lives, but it could also ease the growing burden on healthcare services,” he added.

Wello is available for pre-order in the UK and across the EU. It will ship in summer 2014 at a price of £120 or €145.
