Apple iPhones are incredible gadgets, but they’re not much use when they’re out of juice! With the iPhone 5S and 5C enabling just eight hours of 3G surfing, owners frequently find themselves running out of battery at inopportune moments. However, there are plenty of simple ways to make every charge go further; check out our tips below.

Switch to airplane mode

In airplane mode, your iPhone won’t attempt to connect to wireless networks or make background downloads. As such, the device uses much less power. This is therefore a great option if you want to extend the amount of time you can use offline applications — as long as you’re not expecting an important call!

You can also switch Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Mobile Data off separately. If you’re not using them, turn them off and conserve power.

Be dim

One of the biggest saps on power is your screen, so reducing brightness can significantly improve the life of each charge. Go to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness and change as you wish. Alternatively, enable Auto-Brightness, which uses an ambient light sensor to set the optimal brightness.

Go fetch

Your iPhone automatically accesses the web at regular intervals in order to update your email inbox. Switch this feature off, and you can go longer between charges. Opt to manually check for new messages under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you don’t want to fully disable the feature, change your preferences so data is fetched less frequently.

Get lost

An iPhone’s GPS drains plenty of power, so it’s a good idea to switch location services off under Settings > Privacy. You can leave them switched on for particular apps, such as Apple Maps, if necessary.

Stay still

Dynamic Backgrounds and Stop Motion are nifty iOS7 features that bring animation to your home screen. However, still background images and unmoving app icons use less power, so switch these features off in Settings > General > Accessibility > Reduce Motion and Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness if you want to extend battery life.

Still running out of charge?

If you continue to have problems with your iPhone battery after implementing these measures, it’s a good idea to invest in a portable charger such as the Dual Power Bank, available at Gizoo. This can recharge an iPhone 4S four times, so it will keep your gadget going for much longer.

Feel like your power is running out unusually fast? You might need a new battery. Visit an official Apple service provider to see if it needs to be replaced.
