USBs are ten a penny nowadays but should they go missing and you have confidential data on them, disaster would have well and truly struck.

Kingston has a new USB storage device that promises to keep your precious data safe and sound.

The Kingston 16GB DataTraveler 4000 USB Drive is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified and features 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption in CBC mode. Complex password protection enforces device lockdown after a specified number of invalid attempts. DataTraveler 4000 is rugged and waterproof, with a titanium-coated, stainless steel casing for added protection. It’s easy to set up and use, with no admin rights or application installation required.

The drive delivers 18 MBps (read) and 10 MBps (write) and has a USB 2.0 interface (USB 3.0 would have been better but this is no deal breaker.

The drive is compatible with all modern versions of Windows form XP SP2 onwardsa as well as Mac OS X 10.6.x onwards.

The drive must be managed by the Safe Console drive management system. With Safe Console for Kingston, administrators can enable specific extended DT4000-Managed features, configure password and device policies, remotely reset passwords, activate audit for compliance and much more.

The Safe Console server software is accessed through a standard browser and includes an option to reflect the corporate directory or organisational unit structure. Each managed DT4000-Managed drive securely connects over the Web to the Safe Console server for configuration updates set to its specific assigned group.

Overall, a good solution to keeping data safe on the move. Available from Ebuyer.
