The forthcoming PS4/Xbox One remake of Grand Theft Auto V has obviously got developers Rockstar in a nostalgic kind of mood, because they’re now giving the classic San Andreas an HD buff-up for its tenth birthday.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas launched on the 26th October 2004 and was arguably the series’ pinnacle as far as ambition and technical skill went – jamming an entire state onto the humble PlayStation 2 (with PC and Xbox versions following behind). The new version will be available ten years to the day, launching on Sunday.

Rather than a retail release, San Andreas HD will be download only. Sadly, it seems to be only appearing on Xbox 360, taking the place of the Xbox Originals version in the Games on Demand store. Rockstar have posted details, explaining that you can expect a 720p resolution, enhanced draw distance and Achievement support.

If you’ve already got the Xbox Originals version, unfortunately, you can’t transfer your save file over. Your old version won’t vanish into the digital ether and can be re-downloaded, but if you want to experience San Andreas HD you’ll have to shell out for the new version.

See you down the Cluckin’ Bell…
