Dash cams are steadily becoming more popular as a means to record a driver’s journey, just in case anything untoward happens. The latest MiVue Drive 65LM is packed with features that do both journey recording and sat nav combined.

It also sports lifetime Map Updates, so you never need to worry about new maps or road changes anymore. In addition to the maps, also safety camera data is included for the lifetime of your device.

It has a good quality picture and video playback, as well as that it has a 6.2-inch touchscreen and a handy button to take images, either on the move or when parked. It can record up to 1296p at 30 fps and sports a 140-degree wide angle lens. It also comes with a glass lens and an F1.8 aperture. A glass lens ensures more clear video quality than a plastic lens can ever offer.

It comes with something called Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The two prominent features in ADAS of today are the Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) and the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). These two features add great safety value to a dash cam as LDWS warns the driver in case the car moves out of its lane. And if the distance between one car and the one in front of them decreases, the FCWS gives a warning as well.

Despite the large screen, it is a very compact dash cam. And it is also very simple to use; just add your memory card (microSD) and plug into the cigarette socket on your dashboard and the device starts recording.

The DVR function and navigation at the same time, recording every moment without being distracted or distract the driver and interrupting navigation commands. To turn on the camera preview onboard, just select the “Camera” from the main menu or screen with a map.

If you buy a large enough external memory card you can record a decent amount of journey before it overwriting the old data. The software interface is a decent quality and transfer of data from the camera to your laptop is seamless.

The software that comes with the dash cam is good. It allows you to view the forces on the car in XYZ directions (measured in G’s), the GPS position of the car and sync’s with the video playback.

Overall, the Mio MiVue Drive 65LM is not too complicated to use. The video quality is good enough and night time use is adequate in street lit areas. There are many Dash Cams on the market, but we found this Mio is one of the best all-rounder with a decent wide angle and picture quality is superb.
