Hive has unveiled its new Hive Camera aimed at security-conscious consumers.

Hive Camera links people with their home and family through its 24/7 live HD streaming capabilities, all easily controlled and accessed from its own mobile app. Interactivity is a key feature of the camera: built-in two-way audio allows people to chat with the family at home via the camera, gives parents the ability to soothe youngsters upstairs if stuck in the kitchen, and even lets people chat to their pets while at work.

The device contains a sensor enabling a variety of features, including precise motion and audio detection, while the camera itself has a broad angle of view and also offers night vision. It can be set to record all movement, logging time and date, storing information locally to be easily retrieved via the mobile app. Hive Camera’s multiple functions combine to give a clear picture of what’s going on in the home anywhere at any time. And if something doesn’t look quite right, the camera can zoom in remotely, with the user being able to trigger one of three sounds – a police siren, a dog bark or a ringing alarm.

Nina Bhatia, Managing Director, Centrica Connected Home, said: “Hive Camera allows people to feel as if they’re at home even when they’re not — by seeing and hearing what’s happening through their smartphone, and participating in what’s going on in the home through audio, too. These are benefits customers have told us they want.”

“Customers can expect further innovative Hive products and services over the coming months, as Centrica continues to extend its smart home offering.”

Available for purchase in the UK from the 29th June for £129, Hive Camera will also form part of Hive Home Check– a Hive monthly subscription package.
