Network attached storage for the home is a great idea but can be too complicated for some users. The Western Digital My Cloud Home aims to keep data safe while simplying everything.

The My Cloud home storage device plugs directly into your Wi-Fi router at home so you can save all your digital content in one central place.

It automatically back up the photos and videos on your phone and wirelessly back up and sync your PC and Mac computers and cloud accounts.

The My Cloud Home is available in both single-drive and dual-drive options, and both look the same apart from their size. The top and bottom have large grilles for air circulation. There is a Gigabit Ethernet port on the rear, along with a recessed reset button, a power inlet, and a USB 3.0 host port.

Inside, it sports a a 1.4GHz ARM-based Realtek RTD1296 processor with four Cortex-A53 cores. There’s also 1GB of RAM and the devices s range from 2TB to 8TB for the single-drive My Cloud Home, and 4TB to 16TB (in mirrored RAID) for the larger My Cloud Home Duo.

Set up is easy, you plug it into a internet-connected router. Then, fire up either the My Cloud website, desktop or mobile app and log in.

In use it is easy. No real problems were encountered. . Whether you have access to the mobile app, desktop or, even browser (MyCloud.com), uploading is pain-free. It even allows for a plug-in USB into the back of the My Cloud Home, and import files using the mobile app.

Overall, this is a good option for backing up your data and accessing it from anywhere.
