With the upsurge in popularity of smart home devices and limitless streaming media services, whole-house Wi-Fi coverage has become a necessity. Unfortunately, many Brits find that one if not more rooms in their house suffer from Wi-Fi dead spots, where the signal is slow or non-existent.

The TP-Link Deco P9 is an 802.11ac wireless mesh network system. This device can either supplant a router or function in access point mode to extend a present router’s wireless network. It combines dual-band Wi-Fi and powerline to establish a stronger mesh network.

The strength of the Deco P9 lies in the improved powerline speed. This means that this system spreads signal even faster through your power network. Powerline and wireless connections work together to transfer data between Deco units. The total network speed is significantly better than if you were only using Wi-Fi.

The hybrid whole-home system provides an extended range of up to 560 m2 using the combination of dual-band Wi-Fi and powerline. No more weak signals thanks to whole-home Wi-Fi. You never have to search for a stable connection again.

Thanks to TP-Link Mesh, Deco units work together to form a uniform network. When you walk through your house, your phone or tablet automatically connects to the Deco unit that provides the best speeds. This creates a seamless online experience.

The deco devices were very easy to set up, the main unit is in our living room and connected via a cat 5 cable to the main router. The rest of the deco units were simply plugged in around the house and added to the network via the app. It took about 10 minutes to complete the entire install.

The system provides seamless coverage, no more dead spots and no more interference. The app enables you to set priorities, QoS, etc and blacklist devices. Interestingly, we blacklisted a device on deco, not only would it not connect to the deco Wi-Fi network, but it also wouldn’t connect to the main router’s Wi-Fi, which is still active, so it looks like we have one-touch deprovisioning for all wireless devices.

Overall, the Deco P9 is a comparatively affordable mid-range mesh router, but with a powerline feature that may be vital for some users.

The TP-LINK Deco P9 Whole Home Powerline Mesh Wi-Fi System is available from Amazon.
