Nothing’s worse than unreliable connections and internet speeds unable to keep up with your digital lifestyle. Halo works as a unified system to guarantee a strong Wi-Fi signal in every corner of your home, providing an incredibly fast and stable network experience. Interruption and buffering will be outdated.

Compared with a regular single router which has a limited range for remote corners of the home, Halo H50G works as a unified system to guarantee a fast and stable Wi-Fi signal throughout your home, covering up to 6000 ft² (550 m²) and eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones. Enjoy smooth mesh Wi-Fi from the front door to the backyard.

Mercusys has launched the Halo H50G, the company’s first-gigabit mesh system. It caught my attention due to the good specifications, but also the decent price. Halo H50G is available in two variants: with two satellites or with three satellites.

The Halo H50G is currently only available with the three satellites, but the second version should be available soon. So, in the box, we find three Halo H50G units, which have a simple and elegant design. We have a small box, about the size of a larger cup, with a colourful base. The branding is minimal, and on the back, we have three-gigabit ports and a power port. All units are identical. I like this look and that’s how you get rid of routers with antennas and other distinctive elements. The only negative aspect in this regard would be the short power cord and so, depending on where you have the sockets, you don’t have many places to choose for installing a satellite.

The devices are made in the form of small cubes measuring 88x88x88 mm. The body is made of plastic with a matte finish.

There are no exposed antennas in the device’s body; it is a one-piece cube with several connectors. Namely: a port for charging from a 12 V / 1 A power adapter. In addition, three 1Gbps LAN ports automatically detect the WAN or LAN, as well as the reset button of the device.

In front is located only the power indicator… It shows the current state of the device: blue – setting mode, yellow – power-on mode, white – working in normal mode.

At the bottom, there is a sticker with the serial number, MAC address, and default SSID.

In general, this is a minimalistic device that fits perfectly into any interior.

Considering the software update, the entire process takes about two to three minutes.

To install, you need to download the Mercusys Halo application. It is available on iOS and Android.

  1. We accept the terms of use and privacy policy and register for a Mercusys account.
  2. Turn off the router and modem (if available).
  3. We connect only one Halo module to the outlet. We plug the Ethernet cable into the router and the module. We turn on the router.
  4. You can also connect Halo directly to the internet and use it as a router.
  5. We select the type of connection with the provider and set the name and password of the Wi-Fi network.
  6. We connect the smartphone to the network and connect other modules to the outlet.
  7. We are waiting for the white indicator on all modules to light up. They will automatically connect.
  8. Done, the network is working.

It makes sense to have the router located in a principal place of the house, somewhere high (not on the floor), and not to be locked in a closet to ensure optimal signal distribution. In a larger home, it is harder to have a good signal everywhere. The solution comes in the form of a Wi-Fi mesh system. What is this? You can think of it as a router that comes with other units to extend the signal. Thus, instead of the signal from the router going directly to the smartphone on the second floor of the house, in the case of a mesh system, the signal from the main router goes to the unit on the second floor. From there the signal goes to the smartphone. This way you have a good signal and increased speeds.

Testing was conducted in two locations: a 110 square meter apartment with concrete walls and a four hundred square meter two-story house with brick floors. All measurements were conducted using the service Speedtest.

In the same apartment, I constantly had a problem with the inaccessibility of the Wi-Fi signal in the kitchen since the router is in the bedroom in the farthest corner of the apartment. After installing the Mesh network, the problem disappeared, and the Internet was available everywhere at my maximum speed of 200 Mbps.

It provides a maximum stable connection and constantly fast Wi-Fi anywhere in the house. And Mercusys Halo H50G managed to prove it.
